SOLAR POWER SURGE PROTECTION SOLUTIONS
Solar Panels / Solar Energy
There are a variety of different applications where solar panels can be used to produce energy. More and more homeowners are opting to add solar panels to their homes to help with electrical costs. People are also using solar panels to power a shed, garage or barn. Additionally, commercial applications such as solar farms are popping up more and more.

All of these applications require costly equipment to help make it all run properly. This equipment is sensitive to surge damage which can cause long down times as well as costly repairs.

Meter-Treater offers a variety of solutions for numerous application. See below for some examples.

Junction
Boxes
DC Power
Junction boxes are typically used to tie together multiple solar panels in a row. These junction boxes should be outfitted with Meter-Treaters PVA Series surge protection devices.
Combiner

Inverter
AC Power
The inverter is used to
convert the solar energy into usable utility energy. A surge protection device should be installed on the AC side of the inverter. Meter-Treaters RCHW Series device should be installed here. A 100kA unit is recommended
Main Distribution Panel
AC Power
The main distribution panel should also be protected from surge activity. Meter-Treaters MPT Series device should be installed here. We recommend a 100kA rated device.

Back-up
Battery Bank

Battery back-ups are used to store any extra power obtained during the day so it can be used as night or when there is not as much sunlight.

There is no surge protection needed for the battery back-ups.
Generator
Generators can be installed as a final backup for power if there is no sun for a few days, or not enough was stored to have power for the evenings.
Generators are there to make sure an off-the-grid home truly is never without power.
